Highbury, Jesmond Highbury North is a small, triangular site close to the Town Moor and consists of some 50 full size plots, many of which have now been split, so the total number of separate plots is just short of eighty. The site is actually what is called an “off-take” of the land that is controlled by the Freemen of the City, who are our landlords. It came into being in 1917 and among the rules made at the time was that “No building or greenhouse above three feet in height may be erected.” The site thus resembles a large garden, with Plotters each caring for a small piece. It is very popular, having always had a waiting list in excess of 25 over the last five years and currently stands at 51.
